The Rent Registry portal is open for the FY 2026-2027 registration cycle. Registration fees are due Thursday, July 2.
FY 2026-27 Registration Fees
At its March 5, 2026 Regular Meeting, the Rent Board set FY 2026-27 annual registration fees for fully covered and partially covered units:
- Fully covered units: $397 per unit
- Partially covered units: $244 per unit
The fees above apply to all fully and partially covered units, including government-owned and -subsidized units brought under registration requirements by Measure BB.
Registration fees support the administration of Berkeley’s Rent Stabilization Program and Berkeley Rent Board services including housing counseling, mediation, petition hearings, maintaining Berkeley’s rent registry, and compliance support with the Rent Ordinance.
Payment Deadline
Fees are due on Thursday, July 2, 2026. Fees not received in our office or postmarked by July 2, 2026, are subject to a 100% penalty!
We expect paper bills to be mailed in April. If you do not receive a bill, contact us for help. Not receiving a paper bill does not change the property owner's obligation to pay registration fees on time.
Making Payments
Owners have several payment options:
- Online: The Rent Registry portal is now open for FY 2026-27 payments. You can pay online via credit card or e-check. To pay online, start by pressing the “Review and Submit” button at the top of your Rent Registry Dashboard. If you need assistance setting up a Rent Registry account, please visit our self-help videos that can be found on the Rent Registry portal or our YouTube page.
- U.S. Mail: Payment by check only can be mailed to our office and must be postmarked by July 2, 2026 to be considered compliant. See "Important Information Regarding Payment by Check" below.
- In Person: Owners who wish to pay by check, cash, or credit card in person at the Rent Board office may do so Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9 AM to 4:45 PM.
- Drop box: Owners can place payments in the Rent Board’s drop box, which is in our elevator lobby at 2000 Center Street, Suite 400 (4th floor). The drop box is accessible from 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM, Monday-Friday.
We encourage owners to pay online. Please note that the Rent Board cannot take credit card payments by phone, and all checks must be fully filled out.
Important Information Regarding Payments By Check
Check Payments Must Include:
- Name and address of payer
- Payable to: City of Berkeley
- Date
- Amount paid in full (both numerical and written must match)
- Signature
Registration payments missing any of the required information will be returned to the payor for correction. Please note that returned payments do not constitute a good faith payment and the corrected payment must be postmarked by the due date to avoid penalties.
